BECA Students Honored with Awards and Scholarships

The BECA faculty selected Stephanie Rosa, Sarah Papp, Terra Fernandez, Bill Wickley, Fenecia Garner, Abtin Forghani, Lorena Zuluaga, Meng Zhang, Justin LaneLutter, Kristen Mueller, Justin Pitman, Daniel Martinez, and John Rally for special recognition and bestowed these awards and scholarships at the year end BECA Bash on Friday, May 9.

AWARDS AND SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS 2007-2008

Undergraduate Honoree

Stephanie Rosa

Undergraduate student selected for special recognition at the May Honors Convocation. The selection provides an opportunity to honor students publicly for achievements other than or in addition to high GPA. The student must be a graduating senior.

Buzz Anderson Award

Sarah Papp

Buzz Anderson was a widely loved and respected television production professor in the BECA department, who was wholeheartedly dedicated to his students. The department faculty will give this award to an outstanding graduating senior. This award is based on GPA and overall contribution to the department.

Victoria St. Clair Memorial Award

Terra Fernandez

Victoria St. Clair was always helpful to others, whether this meant assisting in a project or giving a word or two of moral support. This award is traditionally given to a graduating undergraduate student who best exemplifies Victoria’s helpfulness, courage, and inner strength.

Dan Tiedemann Memorial Award

Bill Wickley

Dan Tiedemann was an honors student in this department. He was outstanding in media production. Dan was a friend to all - ever helpful, always seeking perfection. In Dan’s honor, the Daniel Tiedemann award for excellence in media production will be given to a graduating senior who exemplifies these values.

Francia Young Memorial Award

Fenecia Garner

This award, honoring BECA graduate Francia Young, is given to the graduating student, undergraduate or graduate, who best demonstrates excellence in professional promise, community service, overcoming personal obstacles and academic progress.

BECA Faculty Award for Outstanding Achievement and Meritorious Service

Abtin Forghani

This award goes to the student who has demonstrated an exceptional level of dedication to BECA students and faculty. It is to recognize and appreciate the student who best represents the department to the university community and external organizations. The award acknowledges this student’s contributions to the BECA program in terms of civic participation and outstanding academic achievement.

International Student Award

UNDERGRADUATE: Lorena Zuluaga
GRADUATE: Meng Zhang

This award is given to two outstanding graduating international students (one undergraduate and one graduate) on the basis of superior academic achievement and promise, learning effort, and general contribution to the department. Criteria include the student’s effort to share his/her own cultural values and international consciousness and points of view with peers and faculty.

Outstanding Graduate Student

Justin Lanelutter

This award is given annually to the Department’s outstanding graduate student based upon a truly exemplary record of academic achievement and accomplishment in an area of graduate study.
