Is There Life After YouTube?

Some day, someone's going to want to do a broad study of all the stuff that got taken down from YouTube due to alleged copyright infringement — and thanks to YouTomb (a product of the brains at the MIT chapter of Students for Free Culture) that's now possible:

"YouTomb continually monitors the most popular videos on YouTube for copyright-related takedowns. Any information available in the metadata is retained, including who issued the complaint and how long the video was up before takedown. The goal of the project is to identify how YouTube recognizes potential copyright violations as well as to aggregate mistakes made by the algorithm."

The site has an excellent FAQ addressing questions from "What is fair use?" to "Are you really tracking every video on YouTube?" to "My video got taken down; what do I do?" It's pretty interesting; you can even filter the list by "claimant".
