Studio 43 Construction

BECA Advisory Board Member Ron Longinotti and KPIX arranged the donation of a NEVE 55 Audio Console to the BECA Program. The department plans to make this classic Neve console the basis of a complete remodel of Studio 43 - the BECA recording studio and Studio 42 the BECA Sound Design Laboratory. The Neve 55 is generally thought of as a console for broadcast uses, but BECA Faculty Member, John Barsotti, has figured out how to use the aux channels to effectively adapt the console to the recording studio. The installation and remodel is being designed by Dr. Barsotti and is led by a Creative Arts Technical Services team. Felipe Neria is coordinating the audio install, Steve Lahey is responsible for physical spaces and systems, and BECA Television Engineer Winston Tharp is doing all the new equipment acquisition. These folks are working hard and have finished demo of the old studio. The plans for 43 include maintaining the 48-track Analog + Nuendo based recording capacity. Studio 42 will be upgraded to enable Dolby 5.1 Surround mixing. The department hopes to have the project completed by the start of the Fall 2008 semester. More pictures and details coming soon.
