Screening of Video from Guatemala Service Trip

A screening of the video, "Trama Textiles: Weaving the Life of Guatemala/Trama Textiles: Tejiendo la Vida de Guatemala," will be held in Studio One of the Creative Arts Building on Thursday, September 11th, at 7:00 PM. Nine students, enrolled in BECA 580 - Media and Community Service, traveled to Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, where they developed and shot a video to support the work of a women's weaving cooperative, an organization of more than 400 women in 17 communities in the Western Highlands of Guatemala. The immediate need of the cooperative is to increase the market for their products - high-quality weavings in traditional designs - with fair trade organizations in Europe and the United States. As a part of the university's community service learning efforts, the students traveled to Guatemala in June to supply their skills in video production to address this need. Upon returning to San Francisco, they embarked upon the post production. The resultant video will be shown on September 11th, and then multiple copies will be sent back to the women at Trama Textiles to forward to fair trade organizations around the world.

Ms. Sonia De La Cruz, who earned her B.A. and M.A. in the BECA Department, directed the production for the video. Dr. Betsy Blosser taught BECA 580.

The doors open for refreshments at 7:00 PM in Studio One. The screening will begin promptly at 7:30 PM, on Thursday, September 11th.
