Apriendiendo Español

If you're going to do video production in El Salvador, the ability to speak Spanish is a necessity. The students in the class range from beginners in the language to native speakers, like Bolvian-raised Marco Gutiérrez. Marco has already served as a translator, and our two students born in the U.S. of Salvadoran parents (Sarah Mendoza and Alex Hernández) have been recruited to conduct interviews for the video. The rest of us need to catch up! As a result, students are taking Spanish lessons from a Manos de Esperanza volunteer, Alfonso Avelar.

We began yesterday with a morning class in which we dealt with greetings, colors, clothing, parts of the body, and common foods. What was most important was that the class was conducted in Spanish. Now, students are making an effort to speak Spanish with each other and, more importantly, with the Salvadorans we meet. ¡Qué bién!
