Friday in Antigua

This was a comparatively slow day as compared with the heavy production schedule we have had until now. Our first shoot was at noon, when all the folks from Transitions gather for lunch at the Transitions office. This happens once a week, just before the Friday basketball game. On other week days, lunch is taken to the wheelchair workshop and just a few people gather at Transitions. We wanted to include this weekly lunch in our footage to show the family feeling that pervades Transitions.

Then we interviewed a guy named Hugo, who is in charge of the wheelchair workshop. We had spent time with him at various times earlier in the trip - especially in the workshop itself, and we had watched him on the basketball court. In the late 1990s, he accompanied Alex, the Executive Director, to SFSU to learn about making wheelchairs at Whirlwind Wheelchairs, our spring client. After that trip, the Transitions wheelchair workshop was established.

Here is a photo of some students you haven't seen much of in earlier pictures. They are, from left to right, Jean-Pierre Bitchoka, Erin Walter, and Lindsay Castillo. Jean-Pierre, who also made the trip to El Salvador last year, is this project's producer. Erin is the director. And Lindsay is the assistant director. They are shown at the Transitions kitchen table, waiting for the shoot with Hugo to finish.
