Our Production Coordinator/Technical Adviser

One person who has not been mentioned in this blog or seen in the photos may spend most of his time behind the scenes, but he is essential to the project. That is Peter Rollins, who just finished his first year in the BECA M.A. program and who is the Production Coordinator and/or Technical Advisor for the trip. I am not trained in production so it essential that someone who knows production can supervise that activity on these projects, as well as do on-the-spot fixes for problems we encounter along the way. Traditionally, that role has gone to a BECA grad student, and Peter is in that role on this trip.

Peter earned his undergrad degree at UC-San Diego in Visual Arts - Media, with a minor in computer science. He has his own production company, called Noisescape TV. He came to the BECA program in part because, although his past studies focused on film, he is currently working mostly in video and on the Internet. On a three-year plan, Peter expects to receive his M.A. in the spring of 2013. He is pursuing a personal interest in religious studies by taking philosophy classes while simultaneously completing his BECA coursework. Last semester, he also TA’d for audio professor Jeff Jacoby.

Peter chose to come on this trip in part to get out of his comfort zone (which was especially true when the plan was to travel to Haiti), to acquire the out-of-country experience, and to make a social contribution. As you can see in the picture, Peter has purple hair. When children here comment on it, he tells them it’s because he drinks a lot of Kool-Aid.
